Web designers are local businesses.

My SEO Consultant told me that submitting our URL to Google Maps may not work. Aparently, Google does not classify web site design and development as a “local” business. Now, if there are any web designers out there reading this, I am sure others in the room must be hearing a GOL (Guffay Out Loud). We didn’t dedicate a tab on our clients page to our local clientele for nothing. And as it is true that our products are digital allowing for us to locate in places like Baja California next to the Sea of Cortez with a Satellite disk on the roof (Muji) , but for the most part we need to interact with clients and nothing can truly replace a face to face encounter.

Domain Registration & Hosting Companies strive to make their web design products as user-friendly as possible, but I found that there is always a learning curve to using any CMS (Content Management System). And most businesses however small need professional services.

If you have ever done a Google Search on Website Designers and looked through any of the 225,000,000 results, finding a person you can talk to and feel confident that you are getting what you want is like finding a needle in a quarter of a billion pieces of hay. Hearing good things about someone local is not only a relief, but is no less valuable than  getting a good reference for a caterer to do your wedding or a bookkeeper to handle your books.

Large businesses or public traded companies cast a wider net as we are willing to travel to them, but small businesses on a tight budget  do not have this luxury of  getting us good folks to their door. So when searching for a web developer remember to at the word “in” in your query for example “Web Designers in Warwick, NY” as a starting point.
